I went to Kōmyō-ji (Kamakura) temple to see the festival called "Kōmyō-ji's Ten Nights of Prayer". I enjoyed it.


Kōmyō-ji's Ten Nights of Prayer
Every year, from the 12th to the 25th of October Kōmyō-ji holds the Jūya Hōyō (十夜法要 Ten Night Memorial Service?), a celebration which started in 1495 and consists of three days and three nights of uninterrupted sūtra chanting in the main hall.

The festival was born by order of Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado, who invited the temple's ninth abbot Yushu Shōnin to Kyoto, where he was given permission to hold a rite consisting of ten days and ten nights of continuous prayer.[11] Nowadays the rites last only three days, but are performed in Jōdo temples all over the country.

Because the event attracts so many people, during those days the temple's compound is full of stands, selling mostly potted plants, but also food and drinks.

光明寺（鎌倉）の「お十夜法要」に行ってきました。とても楽しく過ごせました。


縁起

光明寺第九代観譽祐崇上人は名僧の誉れ高く、宮中に上って浄土の法門を天皇に御進講されたところ叡感極めて篤く、明応四年（１４９５）の十月、光明寺で「十夜法要」を行うことを勅許されました。以来今日に至るまで五百余年の間、年々歳々、十月を期して奉修してきたのが、大本山光明寺の十夜法要です。

今日では全国の浄土宗寺院において「十夜法要」が行われています。当山の十夜法要は、古式に従い、引声阿弥陀経・引声念仏によって行われ、昼夜にわたり参拝の人々で賑わっています。

お十夜を勅許くだされた後土御門天皇の時代は、いわゆる戦国時代で、打ち続く戦乱の中で庶民は生活に困窮し、まさに餓鬼・地獄の様相を現していました。天皇はいたくこの事を悲しまれ、一日も早く安穏に暮らせるように平和と安泰を望まれて、浄土宗に十夜法要を勅許されました。
　
その念仏の道が世に光明となって弘まる時、今の世、後の世に安楽な生活が約束されるのです。

今日は雛祭りです。wikiによると男雛と女雛を中心とする人形を飾り、桃の花を飾って、白酒などの飲食を楽しむ節句祭りだそうです。関東雛と京雛では男雛と女雛の並ぶ位置が違うとは知りませんでした。

同時に、"上巳（じょうし/じょうみ)"、五節句の一つ桃の節句でもあります。桃の節句には、
必ず黒澤明監督の"夢"を思い出してしまいます。綺麗な映像にかなり感動します。

Today is the Japanese Doll Festival, or Girls' Day called "Hinamatsuri". We display a set of dolls and Platforms folwers. Also, we called "Xiuxi" today.

Every year, on 3rd of March, I always remenber the film of Sir Akira Kurosawa named "another dream". This is a collection of short films, which are used Japanese traditional stories. One of the film is used "Hinamatsuri". The image is very very beautiful. If you have a time, please see the film.

横浜市中区本牧三之谷にある日本庭園、三渓園（さんけいえん）に行ってきました。三渓園（さんけいえん）は、実業家で茶人の原富太郎（号:三渓、1868年-1939年）によって作られ国の名勝に指定されています。ライトアップされた紅葉が奇麗でした。

I went to "Sankeien", which is a traditional Japanese garden in Naka Ward, Yokohama, Japan. The leaves of tree became green to red or yellow and they are lighted up. The views of Sankeien were very beautiful.

紫陽花を見に、鎌倉の明月院 （めいげついん）に行ってきました。まだ、1〜2部咲きでした。七月の初めくらいに満開になるそうです。明月院の紫陽花の多くは、日本古来の「姫あじさい」で淡い青色から、深い色に日ごとに濃くなっていくそうです。ぜひ、ご覧ください。

I went to the Meigetsu-in at Kamakura to see the hydrangea. The flowers opened 10 to 20%. It seems to become full-bloomed in beginning of July. Many of hydrangeas in Meigetsu-in are light blue flower and it is getting to a deep blue colour by day by day. Please see the beautiful view of Meigetsu-in .

もうすぐ2007年も終わろうとしています。2007年は亥年、そして来年2008年は子年です。毎年、何年かは意識するのですが干支の意味は知りませんでした。干支の意味、知ってますか？

It will be the end of 2007. 2007 is 亥 (Pig/Boar (豬)) year and next year, 2008 is a year of 子 (Rat (爻)) with using the idea of 干支 (Sexagenary cycle). Every year I think which this years is. I really do not know the meaning of 干支 (Sexagenary cycle).

干支；
干支（かんし、えと）は、十干と十二支を組み合わせたものである。十干十二支（じっかんじゅうにし）、天干地支（てんかんちし）の略。10と12の最小公倍数は60なので、干支は60期で一周することになる。そのため六十干支（ろくじっかんし）ともいう。

中国やアジアの漢字文化圏において、年・月・日・時や方位、角度、ことがらの順序をあらわすのにも用いられ、陰陽五行説とも結びついてさまざまな占いにも応用された。古くは十日十二辰、十母十二子とも呼称した。

The Chinese sexagenary cycle (Chinese: 干支; pinyin: gānzhī) is a cyclic numeral system of 60 combinations of the two basic cycles, the ten Heavenly Stems (天干; tiangan) and the twelve Earthly Branches (地支; dizhi).

These have been traditionally used as a means of numbering days and years, not only in China but also in other East Asian nations like Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It is also an important part of Chinese astrology.

Chinese astrology;
Chinese astrology is the divination of the future from the Chinese calendar, which is based on astronomy, and ancient Chinese philosophy. In particular, it is based on the sexagenary cycle of 60 years that has been documented since the time of the Shang Dynasty at the latest.
